Why Go: A Roman temple of Augustus, later a Byzantine church, and now a mosque. You can literally walk through the history of Anatolia within a single structure at this site in the center of Ulus, from the still-standing Roman columns on one side to the active mosque on the other. The current mosque is built next to the tomb of a Sufi saint and attracts hordes of religious Turkish tourists. Next to the mosque is a string of souvenir shops with Islamic artwork and religious artifacts.
