The Curse of Billy Penn. In 1987, the construction of the One Liberty Place skyscraper succeeded the height of the William Penn statue atop City Hall, thus casting a curse of failure upon all of Philadelphia's professional sports teams. Luckily, the curse was broken with the Phillies winning the 2008 World Series-- only four months after a statue of Billy Penn was placed atop the Comcast Building, currently highest point in the city.
