Why Go: Playa de Pirapolis is a beautiful beach town with tall palm trees lining the white-collumned promenade and gondola rides to the top of a towering hill that overlooks panoramic views of the Atlantic. It is an important summer resort in the country, predating the resort promenade of Punta del Este. Reminiscent of Cannes on the French Riviera, Piriapolis is graced with striped umbrellas swaying in the sand, happy swimmers, calm waves and gorgeous sunsets.
