Why Go: It is highly recommended to set aside a few days for exploring Oudtshoorn and the surrounding area even if this is strictly speaking not part of the Garden Route. In the Swartberg mountains to the north of the town is the Swartberg Nature Reserve. The Swartberg hiking trail in the reserve will bring you to the various caves where you can view the age old cave drawings of the San people.
