Why Go: An ancient lighthouse that comes with its own sprawling gardens for the kids to frolick in, the Leuchtturm Newerck is on an island a few minutes boat ride a way from Hamburg. It is a great way to spend a day out with family or soak in a quick few hours before the tide sets in. The island also houses a hotel in case you are planning an overnight stay but it is advisable to book in advance because this is a popular tourist destination. A special attraction is a horse drawn carriage ride from hamburg to Newerck.
