Why Go: The Queens Zoo, which is a subsidized by the Wildlife Conservation Society, is an 11-acre space dedicated to American wildlife. Formerly the Flushing Meadows Zoo, the Queens Zoo was created for the World’s Fair in 1964. It was renovated in 1992, but retained some of its old World’s Fair charm by using the fair’s geodesic dome as its aviary. The zoo is home to the bald eagle, great bison, mountain lions, and barred owl; just to name a few.
