Anatemata is a hill above Asenovgrad. According to the famous Asenovgrad novelist and member of the Bulgarian Academy of Science Nikolay Haitov, Anatemata marks the end of Asenovgard. From it you can see the whole city and spend nice time having picnic or just relaxing in Nature.

Once a women's convent, the Metoha is now a favourite place to spend time among people from Asenovgrad. It is opposite the hill 'Anatemata' and offers magnificent view of both Asenovgrad and Assen's Fortress. There are benches for people to sit and the place is good for children, too. You can find it just above 'Geroge Mahala' neighbourhood. Everyone in Asenovgrad knows where Metoha is, so you will have no trouble finding it.

Famous with its monastery (one of the oldest monasteries in Bulgaria, built in year 1083), Bachkovo has been turned into a popular tourists' destination and offers a variety of traditional-style Bulgarian restaurants and little shops with traditional Bulgarian crafts products. Bachkovo is situated at 9 km distance from Asenovgrad.

Bachkovo Monastery is one of the oldest and biggest Bulgarian monasteries (founded in 1083). It is situated near the picturesque village of Bachkovo, at 9km distance from Asenovgrad. Preserved is the hiding place of the Bulgarian national hero Vasil Levski. One of the famous building in the monastery is the so-called Old Dining Room which has unique and exquisite wall-paintings. Every year people from Asenovgrad and the region organise a traditional procession, carrying the famous wonder-making icon of the Holy Mother, which is said to have healing abilities.

The Saint Nedelya monastery near Asenovgrad (and near the village of Zlatovrah) was once really important for the Bulgarian. It is the only monastery build under Ottoman Slavery without it having existed before. Soon after it was founded, it accommodated a school for the poor kids from the area. Today it is still working and registered as a cultural monument.

Founded in 1873, the city hall 'Rodoljubie /Родолюбие/' (meaning patriotism) was and continues to be a centre of the city's cultural life. In the years before and closely after the Bulgarian liberation it served as a protector of the Bulgarian culture, traditions and spirit. The Monument of one of the most powerful and glorious Bulgarian monarchs - Tzar Ivan Assen II is situated in the centre of the city, at the entrance of the city park. It is really high and spectacular and it is worth seeing and taking picture at (our city is named after this Tsar).
